Principal Engineer
Dr. Kim received his Master’s and PhD degrees in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Louisville, in Louisville, Kentucky, specializing in highway traffic noise. He is currently a Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the states of North Carolina and Kentucky.
Prior to starting TECH ENGINEERING, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville, as a Senior Acoustical Specialist with LSA Associates, Inc., California, and as a Senior Traffic Noise Engineer with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. During this time Dr. Kim was instrumental in developing the methodology for traffic noise modeling using Bentley ORD & MicroStation/Geopak, and ESRI ArcGIS.
Dr. Kim has extensive experience in field measurements of highway noise, noise modeling, and noise wall design using both the FHWA TNM and the 108 Model (FHWA-RD-77-108), including the preparation of reports on large, controversial projects throughout the United States. He has also provided TNM training to many highway noise specialists. Recently, Dr. Kim was part of a technical team that reviewed and participated in beta testing the FHWA TNM 3.0.
